In the East there is No Homeland without War

Synopsis
A bold, genre-defying collaboration between poet Carol Sansour and the Kalogeraki Brothers. The performance explores the fragmented spaces where Greek and Arabic meet, through the words of Greek iconic poet Katerina Gogou.
In a raw 30 minute performance, Sansour translates Gogou’s searing works from Greek to Arabic, while also sharing her own poems, translated from Arabic to Greek. These words become battlegrounds, remade by sound: the Kalogeraki Brothers’ original music—at once experimental, haunting, and visceral—fuses with the poetry to create a live, breathing translation.
In this ritual of language, words and music, meaning is not fixed but fluid, forming an evocative resonance between cultures, histories, and voices—an intimate rebellion against translation’s inherent violence, and an exploration of what it means to exist in-between worlds.
The research for In the East there is No Homeland without War was supported by Onassis AiR.
